D-backs outfielder Corbin Carroll will start playing defense again on Wednesday or Thursday, according to manager Torey Lovullo.
Fantasy Impact
Carroll has been taking reps at designated hitter after recovering from a broken hamate bone in his hand of late, but it appears his return to the outfield is imminent. The 25-year-old is coming off a big season, hitting .259 with 31 home runs, 32 stolen bases, and an .884 OPS across 143 games in 2025.
Corbin Carroll has been adjusting to an ax-handle bat in Diamondbacks camp.

Carroll made his Cactus League debut on Wednesday. He worked his way back from a broken right hamate bone he suffered while taking a swing during a live batting practice session. The new bat has been to help alleviate some of the discomfort. "Not sure how long that's going to last, but it's definitely less painful," Carroll said of the new handle. "So sticking with it for now."
Carroll had surgery to remove a fractured right hamate bone less than a month ago, was cleared to resume swinging a bat by early March, and has continued progressing through his hitting ramp-up without issue. He'll make his Cactus League debut Wednesday against the Athletics as the designated hitter.
Fantasy Impact
Carroll is being eased back in at DH for now but is expected to be ready to play the outfield soon, and he remains on track to be available for Opening Day.
Carroll (hand) underwent surgery on Feb. 12 to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. Friday marked his first live at-bats since the procedure, representing significant progress in his hitting program.
Fantasy Impact
Spring training game action remains unlikely. Carroll is positioned to be ready for Arizona's regular-season opener.
Corbin Carroll has resumed swinging a bat with both hands in camp.
Fantasy Impact
Carroll suffered a broken right hamate bone on February 10 and had surgery the following day. "Starting to start to build up there," Carroll said. "It's very low intensity, like flips and tee [work]. I mean, it doesn't feel great. Definitely ahead of schedule. I think some other guys that have gone through a hamate injury were happy to see where I am [given] how far I am out of surgery." His status will need to continue to be monitored, but he appears to be trending in the right direction for Opening Day.
