Cristian Javier picked up the win in relief on Thursday when he allowed three hits with four strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings as the Astros out-slugged the A's 11-6 in Game 4 of the ALDS.
Javier entered the game in the sixth inning with the score tied up at 4-4. He kept the Oakland offense off the board over 2 1/3 innings pitched, only allowing three hits and whiffing four. The Houston offense broke the game open when he was still the pitcher of record so he able to earn his first second win of the postseason. It's unclear how Javier will be used in the best-of-seven ALCS but it wouldn't be surprising if he stayed in the bullpen as he's been their most consistent pitcher in relief during the playoffs.
Cristian Javier earned his fifth win of the season on Thursday against the Rangers, striking out six while allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings.
Javier allowed five hits and one walk as the Astros won 12-4. Not a lot was known about the 23-year-old entering the year, but a slew of Houston pitching injuries forced him into the rotation, and he ultimately shined. Javier finishes the regular season with a 3.48 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 54 1/3 innings. He struck out 54 hitters this year, which is less than one would've guessed after his electrifying debut, but there's a lot of reasons to be optimistic about Javier continuing to develop in the years to come.
Cristian Javier struck out six in Saturday's start against the D'Backs, allowing two runs on four hits over four innings pitched.
Javier's last appearance came out of the bullpen so he threw just 77 pitches in this one. It has been a really nice year for the 23-year-old as Javier now owns a 3.33 ERA to go along with a 0.99 WHIP. He has a great matchup against the Rangers to close out his regular season.
Cristian Javier fell to 4-2 on Monday against the A's, giving up two runs on three hits over three innings pitched.
Javier walked three and struck out three as the Astros lost 6-0. The 23-year-old didn't pitch poorly in this one but he didn't exactly light the world on fire either. Javier now owns a 3.38 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings through eight starts. He gets the Dodgers next time out.
Cristian Javier continued to impress on Wednesday against the Rangers, throwing 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball while allowing just two hits.
Javier improved to 4-1 with the victory, striking out three and walking two along the way. There hasn't been as much strikeout upside as we initially anticipated following his callup, but Javier continues to find ways to be useful for fantasy purposes. The 23-year-old will carry a 3.34 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP into his next start against the Athletics, who roughed him up the first time he faced them.
