Dan Straily held the Brewers to two runs on three hits with a walk over eight innings on Tuesday. He struck out eight batters to earn his 12th win of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has been extremely impressive this year, posting an ERA and WHIP of 3.81 and 1.18 with the 12 victories despite pitching for a losing team in a hitter's park.

Dan Straily held the Rangers scoreless over six innings Tuesday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five.

Fantasy Impact: Straily continues his solid season for the Reds. His ERA and WHIP now sit at 3.57 and 1.12. His upside isn't elite, but he does have 124 Ks in 151 1/3 innings, and he's won 10 games despite pitching for a losing team.

Dan Straily with another gem

Dan Straily held the Giants to one run on three hits and one walk over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out five on his way to his sixth win of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Straily now has a respectable 3.84 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He's been solid for the Reds, but his upside is limited due to the team he plays on and an overall lack of strikeout upside. He does now have quality starts in each of his last five appearances. Over that span, he's logged seven or more innings pitched three times.

Straily lasted just 4.1 innings allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out five in the Reds 7-2 loss to the Braves.

Fantasy Impact: His record now falls to 4-3 with a 3.66 ERA and an impressive 1.19 WHIP. Straily has 69 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched this season.

Straily was solid on Saturday afternoon, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings of work. He gave up just two hits, walked two, and struck out three. If you exclude the Coors Field game where he served up five earned, he has allowed three earned runs or less in every start this season. The Reds' offense did just enough against Stephen Strasburg, then tacked on some insurance against the Nats' bullpen in a 6-3 win.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has been a solid pickup for the Reds thus far, compiling a 3.34 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 13 appearances (10 starts). He has a 59/29 K/BB over 67.1 IP this season, and is allowing batters to hit just .199 against him. His next start is scheduled for Friday against Oakland.

Straily served up five earned over six innings of work at the hitters paradise of Coors Field on Monday, moving his record to 3-2 with the win. He gave up eight hits, walked three, and struck out four as the Reds won just their 5th road contest in 24 tries with an 11-8 victory.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has been the lone bright spot in this Reds' rotation this season, and now owns a 3.43 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the season with a 56/27 K/BB over 60.1 IP. He can be added in deep leagues at this point, as he is really the only viable (healthy) option in this Reds rotation right now. His next start is scheduled for Saturday vs. Washington.

Straily was tremendous on Wednesday night, striking out 11 over seven innings. He allowed three earned runs on three hits, and walked just one in the 3-1 loss. The Reds offense was once again shut down, as they scored just one run and three total in the series.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has been the lone bright spot in the Reds rotation of late, as he now owns a 1.12 WHIP, 2.98 ERA, and 52 strikeouts over 54.1 innings. He is a worthy add in season-long leagues, but don't expect him to get many win opportunities, especially on the road. The Reds are an MLB-worst 3-17 on the road this season. Straily's next start is scheduled for Tuesday at Colorado. If you're looking to add him, you may want to keep him on the shelf until he isn't pitching in Coors Field.

Straily allowed just one earned run over six innings of work on Friday night. He gave up four hits, walked three, and struck out five while throwing 110 pitches. He left with the Reds leading 3-1, but the bullpen proceeded to allow seven earned runs over the next three innings in an 8-3 loss to the Mariners.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has become the best healthy starter in this Reds rotation, but as you could see on Friday night, pitching well in front of this Reds bullpen doesn't guarantee you anything. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 11 innings of work. He can be added in mixed leagues, and makes for a decent target in daily games where his price and matchup are right. His next start comes on Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Straily posted his best line of 2016, shutting out the Phillies over five strong innings on Sunday. It took him 109 pitches to get there, but he allowed just six hits, walked three, and struck out a season-high six. The Reds provided him with plenty of run support with seven runs in the first five innings, and eventually held on for a 9-4 win.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has made himself a viable waiver-wire pickup in deep leagues by continuing to pitch well. He is walking more batters than you'd like to see (4.35 BB/9), but has allowed no more than three earned runs in any of his starts this season. He'll have a chance to keep it going on Friday against Seattle.

Straily turned in six solid innings on Monday night against the Pirates, allowing just two earned runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked three. The Reds bullpen finally broke through with a scoreless outing, keeping the Pirates off the scoreboard for the final three innings in a 3-2 win.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has continued to pitch well for the Reds, and is a player to consider in deeper leagues. He has now pitched at least six innings and allowed three runs or less in three straight starts. He is scheduled to start his next game Sunday at Philadelphia, and is a fine streaming option in that good matchup.

Straily turned in a quality start on Wednesday afternoon, allowing three runs on six hits against the Giants in 6 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four as he earned his first win in a Reds uniform. A five-run second inning propelled the Reds to a big early lead, and the bullpen managed to hold on for a 7-4 win.

Fantasy Impact: Straily has pitched well this season, allowing three earned runs or less in each of his four starts. He owns a 26/14 K/BB along with an ERA of 3.56 and a WHIP of 1.12. He is a solid fill-in option in deep leagues at the moment, but he remains a pitcher with very limited upside.

Straily had his best outing of the season on Friday night against the Pirates, allowing just two earned runs across six solid innings. He gave up five hits, walked three, and struck out five in a 4-1 loss. The Reds' offense continued to struggle, however, and Straily was a tough luck loser after receiving zero runs of support.

Fantasy Impact: Straily is a cheap option across daily sites, but this is also the first time he has lasted through six innings. He has done a fine job of limiting damage, but has very limited upside. He is only an option in the deepest of NL-only leagues at this point and even that may be a stretch. The stagnant offense and struggling bullpen certainly aren't doing him any favors right now.

Dan Straily lasted just four innings on Saturday, allowing three earned runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out five. It took him 97 pitches to make it through four frames, and the Reds offense took over after that. The Reds won 13-5, but Straily didn't factor in the decision.

Fantasy Impact: Straily remains a deep NL-only option with very limited upside. He is best left on the wire, as he just doesn't possess enough upside to warrant a roster spot in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Straily allowed just two hits and one earned run over five innings of work on Monday. He struck out fourand walked two in the Reds' 5-1 loss to Colorado in his first start of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Straily isn't a player to have on your radar at this time. He can be given a look in deep NL-only leagues, but with the imminent returns of Anthony DeSclafani and Homer Bailey, his best case scenario right now is a few more spot starts. He may be best left on the wire for now.

Fantasy Impact: Straily is out of options, and the Astros wanted to get something of value for him. Straily is likely to start the regular season in San Diego's bullpen, but he could slide into the rotation in the event of injury or ineffectiveness from the other starters.

Dan Straily came on in the fourth inning against the Cardinals and subsequently allowed two runs on four hits, while striking out two batters.

Fantasy Impact: Straily is on the outside looking in at the Astros rotation, and games like this, even in the Spring, are not helping his chances of beating out one of the veterans on the roster. Straily's one chance of making the 25-man roster out of Spring Training could come as a long-reliever in the Astros bullpen, but doing so would offer little fantasy value to respective owners. Until something changes, drafting Straily would not make much sense.

Daniel Straily allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Rangers on Tuesday. He had three walks and three strikeouts in the outing.

Fantasy Impact: Straily seemed to be doing alright through the first three innings, but then gave up a solo-HR in the fourth, and the fifth saw three runs come around, knocking him out of the game. Straily hasn't had much success at the major league level this season, and even in AAA he's not shining, proving to be just adequate there. Straily is not fantasy relevant in any league or format.

Daniel Straily allowed two runs on three hits in six innings against the Indians on Wednesday. He had two walks and four strikeouts in the outing.

Fantasy Impact: Straily earned a quality start for the first time since May 7th, 2014, back when he was still with the Athletics. Straily has shown very little of the promise he had as a prospect, bouncing around MLB, and only earning occasional spot starts. He will stick with the 'Stros rotation until a better option gets healthy (Feldman or Peacock), making him a deep AL-Only play for now.

Daniel Straily allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Friday. He had three walks and seven strikeouts in the outing.

Fantasy Impact: While the strikeouts are nice, Straily wasn't great overall, and his spot start might just be that. Straily wasn't doing all that well in the minors prior to the call-up, but with the rotation of the Astros in tatters it's possible he sticks regardless of performance. Straily should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Fantasy Impact: Straily was slated to be the 5th starter on the rotation. If you were planning to put him there on your fantasy roster as well, your plan has just been given the axe. That spot could now potentially go to Roberto Hernandez.

Category: , Transactions

Daniel Straily allowed two hits and one earned run in 3 2/3 innings pitched on Sunday. He also walked one and struckout four.

Fantasy Impact: Straily really needed this kind of outing, as the only run he allowed was on a solo-HR, and that was easily mitigated by the four Ks. He is still vying for the #5 SP slot for Houston, but it is uncertain if he or Roberto Hernandez will get that job to begin the season. Until he is guaranteed the role he should only be drafted as a speculative late-round pick in AL-Only leagues.

Daniel Straily allowed three earned runs on three hits in 2IP against the Pirates. He also walked four and struckout one.

Fantasy Impact: Straily was incredibly wild with his pitches on Tuesday, hitting the dirt every third pitch, and just unable to locate anything. He was the favorite for the 5th SP job for Houston coming into spring training, but with outings like this it makes that likelihood far less certain. Even if Straily gets the job he should only be drafted in AL-Only leagues.

Daniel Straily allowed three hits and one earned run in three innings of work against the Tigers. He had no walks and no strikeouts.

Fantasy Impact: Straily was roughed up in his first outing this Spring, but he looked significantly better and more confident on Thursday. Straily's slider was on point, and contributed heavily to a 1-2-3 inning in the first. He doesn't strike out a lot of bats, but his control is looking closer to 2013 levels now. The fifth SP slot in the Houston rotation still seems to be his to lose, but he's only worth a flier in late rounds of deep AL-Only leagues for fantasy.

Daniel Straily allowed two earned runs on three hits in two innings of work against the Tigers Sunday. He also struck out one batter.

Fantasy Impact: Straily had a rough first outing. He struggled with his command and has yet to prove he can regain his solid 2013 form. Straily is the favorite for the fifth spot in the Houston rotation, but with too many outings like this he could be relegated to the pen, which would erase any fantasy value he might have. He is still draftable in AL-Only leagues, but proceed with caution.

Cubs trade Dan Straily to Astros

The Chicago Cubs have traded pitcher Dan Straily and infielder Luis Valbuena to the Houston Astros in exchange for outfielder Dexter Fowler. Straily had a 6.75 ERA in eight starts with Chicago and Oakland in 2014. (Source: Chicago Tribune)

Fantasy Impact: Straily will be competing for a spot in the Astros rotation. After a down 2014, Straily will look to rebound after returning to the American League. Straily went 10-8 with a 3.96 ERA in 27 starts with Oakland in 2013.
