Dan Winkler agreed to a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Cubs on Wednesday and avoided arbitration.
Winkler was solid out the Cubs pen in 2020 when he registered a 2.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 18:11 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings. He'll continue to work middle relief for Chicago in 2021.
The Braves have recalled Dan Winkler from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Winkler will join the Braves bullpen. The 29-year-old was 4-0 with 2 saves and an ERA of 3.43 in 60.1 Major League innings for the Braves last season.
Atlanta Braves manager said Tuesday night that he might consider using reliever Dan Winkler to close out games going forward. Current Braves closer Arodys Vizcaíno has already been sharing some of his ninth inning duties with A.J. Minter.
After Vizcaíno blew his second save of the season on Tuesday, it is starting to sound like we might have a full-blown closing committee on our hands in Atlanta. Winkler now enters a closing picture that was already being shared by Vizcaíno and Minter, and at this point it is fair to wonder if Shane Carle and his 0.75 ERA might join them.
Dan Winkler is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a fractured right elbow. He's unlikely to pitch again in 2016.
Winkler got off to a nice start in an otherwise questionable Braves' bullpen this season. Another year will be cut short for the right-hander, who was returning from Tommy John surgery.
