RP - OAK - IL60
Oakland A's reliever Dany Jimenez earned the save in a 2-1 Opening Day win over the Los Angeles Angels.
The A's don't have a confirmed closer for the 2023 season but it was Jimenez who got the opportunity Thursday after Trevor May pitched the eighth inning. Jimenez walked one and struck out one in the outing. Jimenez should be in line for further save opportunities after he closed out 11 games last season alongside a 3.41 ERA in 34 appearances.
Dany Jimenez was placed on the 60-day IL Saturday with a strained right shoulder. The A’s selected Austin Pruitt from Triple-A to take Jimenez’s roster spot.
Though break for Jimenez who was just recently activated from the IL in early August. The 28-year-old will be out for the remainder of the season. Jimenez finishes the year with a 3.41 ERA, .283 BAA, four holds, and 11 saves in 34 games.
Dany Jimenez pitched two innings on Saturday, striking out one, and giving up one hit for zero earned runs as he earned the win over the Mariners in a 4-3 game.
Jimenez picked up his third win of the season as he improved his record to 3-4 on the year. The Athletics reliever has pitched to the tune of an 3.31 ERA with a WHIP of 1.16. The 28 year old has 11 saves as well on the season and he can be rostered, especially since he is the best reliever on his team.
Dany Jimenez was activated from the 15-day IL on Tuesday. The 28-year-old has been out of action since June 19th with a strained right shoulder.
Jimenez is expected to work his way back into a high-leverage role in the back of the A’s bullpen. In 26 appearances prior to the injury, Jimenez posted a 4.38 ERA, .204 OBA, a 8.39 K/9 ratio, and was 11-for-13 in save chances.
Dany Jiménez will go on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
Jimenez tallied 11 saves earlier in the season as the A's closer, but it's unclear if he'd be able to reclaim that role when he comes back. Those desperately speculating for saves can take a chance on Jimenez, but keep your expectations in check.
