ESPN's Jeff Passan reports the Rangers have signed free agent OF David Dahl to a one-year, $3 million deal.
Dahl was recently non-tendered by the Rockies, which came as a surprise as the 26-year-old wasn't owed that much in arbitration (likely about $3 million, actually). He quickly finds a new home in Texas, however, and he could wind up being a fantastic bargain. The key, as always, will be his health. Dahl has never played more than 100 games in the majors. He was limited to 24 games this past summer, batting just .183 while dealing with a shoulder issue.
The Rockies non-tendered OF David Dahl.
Dahl was an All-Star two seasons ago but he once again struggled with injuries in 2020. The 26-year-old hit just .183 with a .469 OPS in 24 games. He's still young enough that a team will be willing to give his talent a chance, but Dahl has mostly disappointed (largely due to injuries) since getting to Colorado.
David Dahl underwent surgery on his right shoulder on Tuesday.
The surgery went well by all reports. This was a cleanup procedure and the 26-year-old is expected to be ready for spring training. He can begin his rehab on Wednesday. Dahl was a fantasy bust in 2020, hitting .183 with a .469 OPS.
The Rockies placed OF David Dahl (shoulder) on the 45-day injured list.
This obviously ends his season. Dahl finishes the 2020 campaign with zero homers and a .183 average in 24 games. He'll be off the fantasy radar in most 2021 drafts next spring.
David Dahl went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to the A's.
It has been a brutal season for Dahl, who is hitting .176 with zero homers and a .444 OPS in 22 games. That's obviously a small sample size, but there's no reason to start Dahl in fantasy leagues next week.
