Eligibility
Free-agent reliever Derek Law has signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals.
Fantasy Impact
The deal is rather complicated and includes an invite to big-league camp. Law can earn $1.5 million in the majors with another $500K in incentives while it also includes three opt-out clauses. The 33-year-old posted a healthy 3.60 ERA in 54 appearances with the Reds in the 2023 season.
Derek Law pitched a scoreless inning during Thursday's game against the Mets, allowing no hits but one walk and striking out one.
Fantasy Impact
This brought his season stats to 18 games played with a 2.79 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 8.8 K/9, 5.03 FIP, 1.58 K/BB, 0.265 BABIP, one save, one blown save, and two holds.
Derek Law pitched 1 2/3 innings Saturday, allowing just two walks and striking out two to earn the save in a 7-5 win over the Mariners.
Fantasy Impact
Law got an opportunity for the save with Ken Giles on the paternity list and out for a couple of games. Normally Law works in a setup role and will move back once Giles returns and is not worth adding in fantasy.
Derek Law allowed one hit and one walk but posted two strikeouts during a four-out save in 5-4 victory against the Yankees on Saturday.
Fantasy Impact
Normal Blue Jays closer Ken Giles has not pitched since Wednesday and looks like he may be heading to the IL. This could mean more save opportunities for Law who now has three saves on the season and would be worth grabbing in deeper leagues.
Derek Law earned his first save of the season on Friday, recording the final six outs to preserve a three-run lead against the Orioles
Fantasy Impact
Law got the opportunity to close as Justin Shafer who saved the Blue Jays last win got sick and was not available. Regular closer Ken Giles should be back soon from his elbow issue and will get all chances moving forward.
