Emerson Hancock shut down from throwing

Emerson Hancock was shut down from throwing three weeks ago due to a lat strain.

Fantasy Impact

Hancock is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and was the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft. His 2021 season ended early due to a right shoulder injury, and he was expected to be healthy heading into the spring. Unfortunately, the lat strain shut him down three weeks ago, and there is no word when he will resume throwing.

Emerson Hancock added to Mariner’s major league camp

The Mariners have added Emerson Hancock to their major league camp as a non-roster invitee.

Fantasy Impact

Hancock was drafted out of Georgia by Seattle at sixth overall in the 2020 draft. Although he hasn’t thrown a professional pitch, MLB.com has him ranked as the Mariner’s number three prospect. Regardless of how he pitches this spring it’s unlikely he see the majors this season.

Emerson Hancock added to Mariners' 60-man roster

Emerson Hancock, the Mariners’ 2020 first-round pick, has been invited to the Mariners' 60-man roster for this shortened 2020 season.

Fantasy Impact

This will likely not lead to any fantasy value, but it will be interesting to see how he looks during spring training 2.0 and any possible game he may enter. Keep an eye on him for dynasty purposes.

Emerson Hancock signs contract with Mariners

First-round draft pick RHP Emerson Hancock has come to a contract agreement with the Mariners.

Fantasy Impact

Hancock is receiving a $5.7 million signing bonus, which is slightly less than slot value for the sixth overall selection. The Georgia product is viewed as a "safe" pitching prospect who profiles as a serviceable mid-rotation starter.

Emerson Hancock selected No. 6 by Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have selected University of Georgia RHP Emerson Hancock with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Fantasy Impact

Hancock sits in the mid-90's with his fastball, and owns a plus changeup and slider. He dealt with a lat injury and arm soreness throughout 2019, and looked a bit rocky in a couple starts before the shutdown. Nonetheless, his starter's build, solid control, and velocity project him to be major-league ready relatively quickly as a starting pitcher.
