Speier landed on the injured list on May 4 due to left shoulder inflammation. He began a throwing program shortly after and is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on Sunday. If all goes well, he could begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Wednesday.

Speier took the mound in the 10th inning after Matt Brash and Andres Munoz pitched the eighth and ninth innings. After the game went scoreless in nine innings, Seattle poured in three runs in the top of the 10th inning to give Speier some run support for the save. He retired the Angels in order with the ghost runner on second base scoring. He'll continue to pitch in the seventh and eighth innings most appearances.

Speier became an integral part of the Mariners' bullpen last season, pitching in a career-high 76 games. He went 4-3 with a 2.61 ERA and a 82:11 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 62 innings. He is especially tough on lefties, holding them to a .179 average with 42 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances. Speier has a 3.64 career ERA in 180.1 innings between Kansas CIty and Seattle. He will remain a lefty specialist for the Mariners in 2026.
