The Brewers promoted top prospect OF Garrett Mitchell to Double-A Biloxi.
The 28-year-old has been raking in High-A to begin his minor league career, batting .359/.504/.620 with five homers and 12 steals in 28 games. It's clear he's ready for a tougher assignment, and his dynasty league value is certainly on the rise. There are questions as to how much power Mitchell will hit for in the majors, but his top-of-the-order skill set will make him fantasy relevant regardless. The former UCLA Bruin was the 20th overall pick in last summer's draft.
Brewers OF prospect Garrett Mitchell went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases in Wednesday's High-A game.
A first-round selection from the 2020 draft, Mitchell has a strong hit tool and plus speed. The biggest knock on his game is his power, but there's still 20-homer upside here. The UCLA product could rise up prospect rankings in a hurry if he continues this hot start.
The Brewers signed their first-round pick OF Garrett Mitchell.
Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports the signing bonus is right around slot value, which is about $3.2 million for the 20th overall selection. The 21-year-old out of UCLA blends a nice combination of speed and defense into his game but it's up in the air if he'll develop much power as a pro.
The Brewers have selected UCLA OF Garrett Mitchell with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Mitchell is an elite defender and is a 70-grade runner. He stole 23 bases on 28 attempts and averaged .350 the last two seasons. Mitchell could develop power, but has plenty of fantasy upside due to his elite speed and defense.
