George Kirby took the loss Monday against the Orioles, allowing seven runs on nine hits across four innings to go along with two strikeouts and one walk.
Fantasy Impact
Kirby had what was by far the worst start of his rookie season so far. Baltimore got to him for one run in each of the first two innings before the Orioles blasted two home runs in each of the next two frames. He will look to bounce back in his next scheduled start against the Athletics.
George Kirby earned the win Wednesday against the Athletics, allowing five hits across six shutout innings to go along with six strikeouts and one walk.
Fantasy Impact
Kirby has now tossed six innings in four of his last five starts for the Mariners. He continues to keep the walk downs, registering no more than one walk in all nine of his starts to begin his MLB career. Kirby lowered his ERA to 3.12 in the process.
George Kirby tossed six innings on Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six. His only blemish was allowing a two-run home run to Mike Trout in the third inning, but the Mariners would go on to lose to the Angels 4-1.
Fantasy Impact
Through his first eight career starts, Kirby has 41 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched with a 3.56 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Aside from two terrible starts in May, he has been a consistent pitcher in a fantasy rotation. His BB% is 2.8, meaning you can count on him to keep your WHIP low, and at a K/9 rate of 8.58, he will also boost the counting stats. While you may struggle to get him cheaply in a dynasty league, he may be an excellent trade candidate in redraft. His next start will come on the road against Oakland; in his last start against the A's, he tallied nine strikeouts, so make sure he is in your weekly lineups.
George Kirby took the no-decision Saturday against the Red Sox, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits across five innings to go along with four strikeouts and one walk.
Fantasy Impact
After a J.P. Crawford error to open the game, Kirby went on to leave a pitch over the middle that Rafael Devers crushed for a two-run home run. Boston added on one more run in the inning. The rookie was able to settle in, tossing three straight scoreless innings that included retiring eight straight Red Sox hitters. Right as it looked like he was going to get through five innings allowing just the three runs, he walked his first batter of the game which was followed by a J.D. Martinez home run. It wasn't the sharpest outing overall for Kirby, but his walk rate still sits very low as he has walked four hitters this season to 35 strikeouts.
George Kirby took the no-decision Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on five hits across six innings to go along with three strikeouts.
Fantasy Impact
Kirby allowed solo home runs to Adolis Garcia and Marcus Semien for the lone damage he allowed. Through six starts to begin his MLB career, he has posted a 3.38 ERA with 31 strikeouts to just three walks allowed. He continues to fill the strike zone early and often for the Mariners.
