Eligibility
The Tigers have officially released infielder Greg Garcia. He was informed this week that he did not make the big-league squad and had the option to opt out or report to the minors. Ultimately, he chose the former.
Fantasy Impact
Through seven years with the Cardinals and Padres, Garcia slashed .245/.354/.339. However, he dropped to the Mendoza line in 2020 before inking a minors deal with Detroit this spring. He posted similarly frustrating results in camp, going just 4-for-28 with one RBI and no extra-base hits.
INF Greg Garcia doesn’t make the Tigers roster.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia was unable to secure a roster spot after hitting .143 in Spring Training. He has an opt clause in his contract and is weighing his options. Garcia will either exercise his option or head to the minors.
The Padres non-tendered INF Greg Garcia.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia posted a weak .529 OPS during the shortened 2020 campaign. He has been one of the better pinch-hitters in baseball over the past two years.
Greg Garcia went 0-for-3 with a walk in the Padres' 10-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia has reached base eight times over his last four games. He leads off for San Diego here and there but will need to stay hot for a while longer before he's a relevant fantasy option.
Greg Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored in the Padres' 10-7 loss to the Rockies on Sunday.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia has now led off in each of his past four starts, and his average is up to .265 to go along with an .811 OPS. The 29-year-old is only worth owning in deep leagues, but it certainly helps his value if he continues leading off.
