Gregory Polanco (shoulder) placed on injured list

Gregory Polanco was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with posterior left shoulder inflammation.

Fantasy Impact

This injury might explain why Polanco has started just once over the last six games, as well as his lowly .184/.245/.286 line over his last 15 contests. Polanco underwent surgery to repair the same shoulder last September, which delayed his start to the 2019 season. Jason Martin was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

Gregory Polanco doubles and scores in win Sunday

Gregory Polanco went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the Pirates' 5-4 win over the Marlins on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact

Polanco has taken a backseat to Bryan Reynolds over the past few weeks, which is partially because of Reynolds' hot performance, and partially because Polanco is hitting .219 with a 44% K rate in June. Polanco doesn't need to be held in standard mixed leagues while serving in this part-time role.

Gregory Polanco hits sixth home run Thursday

Gregory Polanco went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Pirates' 6-1 win over the Braves on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Polanco ended a long homer drought, having not gone deep since May 23. His performance in general has been slipping lately, though he did raise his ISO to .206 after today. He is in the OF3-4 range in mixed leagues.

Gregory Polanco sitting on Wednesday

Gregory Polanco is absent from Wednesday’s lineup versus the Reds.

Fantasy Impact

It’s a routine day off for Polanco. Melky Cabrera is playing right field and batting fifth in his absence.

Gregory Polanco strikes out three times in loss Tuesday

Gregory Polanco went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Pirates' 11-6 loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

Polanco had a hard time with Cincinnati starter Lucas Sims, and now has a .259 AVG on the year. He's flashed solid power, with five home runs and a .213 ISO, but the rest of his game has been lacking. Polanco is coming off rather a serious shoulder injury, so may take him a while to get in the swing of things. In deeper leagues or five outfielder leagues, it's worth hanging onto Polanco through rough times.
