Griffin Canning (Achilles) to open season on IL

Griffin Canning is expected to open the season on the injured list.

Fantasy Impact

Griffin Canning (Achilles) signs deal with Padres

Griffin Canning (Achilles) has agreed to a deal with the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Impact

Canning was having a decent season with the Mets in 2025 before rupturing his Achilles in June, forcing him to miss the remainder of the year. The righthander went 7-3 with a 3.77 ERA in 16 starts before the injury. In six big league seasons, Canning has a 4.65 ERA in 115 appearances (110 starts) with the Angels and Mets. It's unclear if Canning will be ready for Opening Day, but he has begun throwing and, when healthy, should occupy a back-end of the rotation spot in San Diego.
