Canning said Tuesday that he feels 100 percent when throwing off the mound as he continues to work his way back from a torn left Achilles. He does not have a clear timetable to return, but it sounds like late April or early May could be his target date.

Canning was having a decent season with the Mets in 2025 before rupturing his Achilles in June, forcing him to miss the remainder of the year. The righthander went 7-3 with a 3.77 ERA in 16 starts before the injury. In six big league seasons, Canning has a 4.65 ERA in 115 appearances (110 starts) with the Angels and Mets. It's unclear if Canning will be ready for Opening Day, but he has begun throwing and, when healthy, should occupy a back-end of the rotation spot in San Diego.
