Hurston Waldrep will require Tommy John surgery on his injured right elbow.

Waldrep had originally been hoping to avoid surgery and return to the mound at some point this season. That's not going to be the case, as the young righty will miss the remainder of the year and potentailly all of next season.

The sense around the Braves' organization of late as been that Waldrep's season is over, with any update likely revolving around when he begin to rehab and pitch again in the future. The 24-year-old has made just three appearances for the Braves this season.

Waldrep really struggled in his second start of the season for the Braves on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. The young righty has allowed 10 earned runs while walking 10 batters over just 10 2/3 innings since being activated off the IL and called up to the bigs a couple of weeks ago. Tyler Kinley was activated from paternity leave in a corresponding move.
