The New York Yankees have optioned outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez to minor-league camp.
Fantasy Impact
The move to send the 20-year-old to the minors confirms there was nothing he could possibly have done to crack the big club's Opening Day roster this spring. Dominguez raked to the tune of a .455 average with four home runs, one stolen base, and a monstrous 1.565 OPS across 22 at-bats this spring. Dominguez also turned in a .306 average with six homers, 17 steals, and a .907 OPS across 40 games at High-A as a 19-year-old in 2022. His performance this spring could put him on the brink of a big-league promotion at some point during the 2023 campaign.
The New York Yankees have invited prospect Jasson Dominguez to MLB spring training.
Fantasy Impact
Both Dominguez and Yankees No. 1 prospect Anthony Volpe received invites to big league camp. The 20-year-old Dominguez reached Double-A in 2022, but appeared in just five games and recorded a homer and a stolen base in that time. Previously, he hit .306 with six homers and 17 steals across 40 games at the High-A level following a promotion from A-ball. All told, he hit .273 with 16 home runs and 37 stolen bases across 120 minor-league contests in 2022. Dominguez should start the 2023 campaign at the Double-A level.
The Yankees promoted top prospect OF Jasson Dominguez to Low-A Tampa.
Fantasy Impact
Dominguez went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in his first game. He played in seven contests in the Florida Complex League, going 4-for-20 with six walks. It's a bit of an aggressive promotion for the 18-year-old prodigy, but the Yankees also want to get some of their new draft picks into instructional league games. Dominguez remains one of the most hyped prospects in recent history.
Yankees top prospect OF Jasson Dominguez went 0-for-2 with a walk in his professional debut on Monday.
Fantasy Impact
Dominguez started in center field and was batting leadoff in Monday's Opening Day for the Florida Complex League. Still just 18 years, "the Martian" is widely considered a top-25 prospect already. Due to his young age combined with the Coronavirus pandemic, baseball fans had yet to see Dominguez play in an actual game until today. His development will be one to follow as the summer moves along.
Yankees top prospect OF Jasson Dominguez will begin the 2021 minor league season in extended spring training.
Fantasy Impact
Yankees Senior Director of Player Development Kevin Reese says there's a chance Dominguez will debut for Low-A Tampa this year. "He doesn't look like an 18-year-old kid," Reese elaborated. "You notice that in everything he does. He jumps off the page at you as you watch him perform. I apologize that you have to wait a little bit longer for that mystery to unveil itself, but when it comes, you'll know." Dominguez is one of the most hyped prospects in recent years, but he has yet to play a professional game due to signing at such a young age followed by the cancellation of the minor league season last year. Still, he absolutely needs to be rostered in dynasty leagues and could rise up prospect rankings quickly if all goes well. The plan is for the potential five-tool star to play exclusively center field in extended spring training.
