Jean Machi came on in the ninth inning to close out Bostons 4-2 lead over the Yankees. Machi managed to do just that, but not before allowing one run on one hit and three walks. Machi did record two K's along the way.
Fantasy Impact
If you're hard up for saves Jean Machi is an option. The Red Sox have been playing much better baseball as of late and Machi could see some opportunities. Just cross your fingers and hope that the 2013 (2.38 ERA) & 2014 (2.58) Machi appear instead of the 2015 version (5.14 ERA) that got run out San Francisco earlier this year.
The Red Sox announced that Jean Machi will take over as the team's closer, replacing Junichi Tazawa.
Fantasy Impact
Tazawa has struggled of late, but Machi hasn't been much better (5.21 ERA in 46 2/3). The Red Sox closer role isn't providing many save opportunities this season, and it's hard to say how long Machi will maintain the role.
Jean Machi allowed two earned runs on three hits in the ninth inning of Boston's eventual 5-4 win over the White Sox Monday night. The save was Machi's second of the season.
Fantasy Impact
Jean Machi was very good for the San Francisco Giants in 2013 (2.38 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) and 2014 (2.58 ERA, 0.95 WHIP), but not so much in 2015 (5.14 ERA, 1.49 WHIP) which is why he's now with the Red Sox. Machi figures to see some save opportunities here and there for Boston, but he's not some one that you should count on to put up any sort of meaningful numbers.
Red Sox manager John Farrell has indicated that Jean Machi will serve as the team's closer with Koji Uehara (wrist) ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Fantasy Impact
Jean Machi may give way to Junichi Tazawa in some cases but should get the bulk of save chances. With the Red Sox in last place it will be hard to say just how many chances he gets but if you need saves grab Machi.
Jean Machi made his Boston debut Saturday, picking up a save in 1.1 innings against the Rays.
Fantasy Impact
Even though Jean Machi got the save on Saturday, the closers role still belongs to Koji Uehara. Machi came in during the eigth inning with a three run lead which expanded to five. Machi will pitch in middle relief and sometimes in a set up role and has no fantasy value.
