J.J. Hardy gets the start at SS Saturday

J.J. Hardy started for the first time since being placed on the DL in June. He showed up with a 2-for-3 day and added a walk and a run.

Fantasy Impact

It was nice to see the veteran Oriole get on the field and produce like he has throughout his long career. Hardy will have to settle into a reserve role as his replacement, Tim Beckham, is expected to maintain an every day status in this lineup. Beckham was DH while Hardy got the start at SS.

J.J. Hardy activated from the DL

J.J. Hardy has been on the DL with a wrist fracture since June 19th and finally will have the opportunity to play major league baseball again.

Fantasy Impact

As of now, Hardy will provide much needed depth as the Orioles are deep in the wildcard race. However, he may not be an instant every day starter with Tim Beckham playing great in his absence. Beckham has a solid slash line of .359/.391/.588 in 35 games with the O's.

J.J. Hardy expected back this week

J.J. Hardy received a cortisone injection in his ailing elbow and is expected to make his return from the 60-day DL this week.

Fantasy Impact

It's been a long recovery for the O's shortstop, who has been out since June with a wrist fracture and elbow issues. Coach Buck Showalter believes Hardy has a chance to play in the Orioles' upcoming series against the Yankees. With his replacement Tim Beckham playing incredibly well, it remains to be seen what kind of playing time the veteran Hardy will actually get.

J.J. Hardy out a few more days with elbow issues

J.J. Hardy is close to finally coming off the 60-day DL, but elbow issues may keep him out several more days.

Fantasy Impact

Hardy recently completed his rehab assignment after being placed on the DL with a wrist fracture in mid-June. Now it appears he will be rested several more days with an unrelated elbow issue. Coach Showalter described it as "kind of like a tennis elbow." The O's aren't in any rush to get Hardy back since his replacement, Tim Beckham, has been a premier player in his absence (.394/.417/.646).

J.J. Hardy starts rehab assignment

J.J. Hardy played 15 innings combined on Monday and Tuesday for Triple-A Norfolk in his first game action since June 19.

Fantasy Impact

It's been over two months since Hardy was placed on the DL with a right wrist fracture, however coach Showalter is noncommittal on a return date. Speaking of J.J.'s return, Showalter said, "so many things can change. It could be five days away. It could be two weeks away. Who knows?" Even when the coach knows, the next decision won't be easy. Hardy's replacement, Tim Beckham, has been a superstar in his absence, sporting a spectacular .417/.437/.738 line since joining the O's. Don't expect Hardy to automatically win his job back.
