The Indians have released RP Joba Chamberlain.
Fantasy Impact
The Indians were forced to make a hard decision on Chamberlain, recently designating him for assignment. He then declined to head to Triple-A, resulting in his release. He's been solid this season, posting an ERA and WHIP of 2.25 and 1.15 with 18 strikeouts in 20 innings, though he has dealt with injury. He will likely join another team after the All-Star break.
RP Joba Chamberlain was placed on the DL with strained chest muscles. Indians' manager Terry Francona confirmed that Joba Chamberlain's side had been sore for "a couple weeks."
Fantasy Impact
The right-hander has been a useful addition to the Indians' bullpen with a 1.93 ERA and 9.64 SO/9 over his 14 appearances. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, he does not have any saves or holds so his value is limited.
RP Joba Chamberlain gave up one run (unearned) on one hit with one walk and one strikeout in his one inning of work in the loss to the Astros on Monday.
Fantasy Impact
Joba Chamberlain has only allowed one earned run his 10 outings from the Indians' bullpen. He has seven strikeouts over 10 1/3 innings but has yet to record a hold or save. His current role limits his value in fantasy.
In the final roster move by the Indians, James Ramsey was DFA'd to make room for RP Joba Chamberlain.
Fantasy Impact
The non-roster invitee beat off stiff competition to secure the final bullpen spot. Joba Chamberlain made 11 appearances in Spring Training with eight strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA. Worryingly, he did allow eight walks in those ten innings. The 30-year-old could be useful in leagues that value middle-relievers and if holds is one of your scoring categories, then you will be interested that no-one secured more holds in Spring Training than Joba Chamberlain.
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed P Joba Chamberlain to a minor league contract. Chamberlain was designated by the Detroit Tigers earlier this season.
Fantasy Impact
Prior to his release by the Tigers, Chamberlain had a 4.09 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 15/5 K/BB ratio in 22 innings. Toronto's pitching is a mess, so even Chamberlain may be able to find a late-inning role with the team at some point this season. For now he's certainly not fantasy relevant.
