Joe Biagini signs minor league contract with Blue Jays

The Blue Jays signed the 31-year-old Joe Biagini to a minor league deal.

Fantasy Impact

This deal is most likely just a depth move for the Blue Jays as Biagini has pitched just 7.1 innings since the start of 2020. He was once a valuable pitcher for the Blue Jays as he was with the club from 2016 to 2019. In 2017, Biagini logged 119.2 innings. There is not much fantasy relevance here, as Biagini will likely be bullpen depth if he makes the Blue Jays roster.

Joe Biagini traded to the Astros

Blue Jays reliever Joe Biagini has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays just ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline, according to multiple reports.

Fantasy Impact

The Astros placed Ryan Pressly on the injured list earlier in the day and were said to be in the market for relievers, and they struck a deal just before the deadline with the Blue Jays for Biagini. Biagini has a 3.86 ERA on the year and 49 strikeouts over 49 innings. He has value in holds leagues but will not likely see any save opportunities in Houston.

Joe Biagini struggles in his first appearance as closer

Joe Biagini allowed two earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out none across one-third of an inning Wednesday against the Orioles.

Fantasy Impact

Biagini was named the temporary closer for the Blue Jays while Ken Giles is on the 10-day. He did not make a good impression in his first appearance as he could not get out of the eight inning. Unless your desperate for saves its better to leave Biagini on the waiver wire.
