The Athletics have optioned right-hander Joey Estes to Triple-A Las Vegas.

In his first start of the season for the A's, Estes yielded four earned runs on five hits, including a homer, and a walk in 4 1/3 innings of work against the Rockies on Saturday. He was likely heading back to Las Vegas regardless, but it wasn't an encouraging outing for the 24-year-old. Left-hander Brady Basso was recalled from Vegas in a corresponding move.

Estes has dealt with a back issue this spring, but pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has posted a 5.51 ERA across 30 appearances (28 starts) since debuting in the 2023 season.

Estes made just three appearances for the A's in 2025, spending most of the season at Triple-A Las Vegas where he posted a 5.51 ERA across 80 innings. He eventually landed on the injured list with a herniated disc in his lower back to close out the year.

After ramping up slowly to open spring training, Estes is set to make his Cactus League debut Tuesday against the White Sox, his first competitive action since the back injury shut him down.
