Fantasy Impact
After Wednesday's loss, Wiemer is batting .356 with three home runs, six RBI, 11 runs scored and one stolen base across 18 games. The 27-year-old has performed when called upon, but he is not seeing enough playing time currently to be fantasy viable.
Joey Wiemer went 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, one walk, and three RBIs in the Nationals 6-3 win over the Cubs.
Fantasy Impact
Wiemer got the party started in the first inning with a three-run blast to give the Nats an early lead. The 27-year-old is off to a scorching start, recording a hit in each of his first six at-bats, two home runs, and four RBI this season. If Wiemer can continue to hit well, he should see plenty of playing time on a rebuilding Nationals’ team.
Joey Wiemer went 3-for-3 in Thursday's 10-4 win over the Cubs with a home run, two runs scored, one RBI and a walk.
Fantasy Impact
Wiemer was on the roster bubble to close out Spring Training but showed out in his Nationals’ debut. Fantasy managers will want to temper expectations, as the 27-year-old is expected to operate in a platoon and will see the bulk of his playing time against left-handed starters.
Joey Wiemer has been claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals. Wiemer was designated for assignment last month by the Giants.
Fantasy Impact
Wiemer, a fourth-round draft pick by the Brewers in the 2020 MLB Draft, has slashed .205/.279/.359 over 499 plate appearances while playing for the Brewers, Reds, and Marlins. As a rookie in 2023, he batted just .203 with Milwaukee but did hit 13 home runs and swipe 11 bases. While his batting average has never been great, he does have a decent combination of speed and power as evidenced by his 63 home runs and 84 steals over five seasons in the minors. He also has a solid glove and can play all three outfield positions. Since Wiemer is out of options, he could find himself on the Nationals' opening day roster as a possible bench option.
The Giants have designated outfielder Joey Wiemer for assignment.
Fantasy Impact
The Giants designated Wiemer on Wednesday once the free-agent signing of right-hander Jason Foley became official. The 26-year-old has struggled in limited big-league action, hitting just .205 with 16 homers and 12 steals across 180 big-league contests between the Brewers, Reds and, Marlins.
