The Chicago Cubs have signed former Yankees relief pitcher Jonathan Holder to a one-year contract.
The right-hander from Mississippi State has spent his entire five-year career with the Yankees and holds a pedestrian 4.38 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 165 K in 176.2 IP throughout his career. He was not particularly effective for the Yankees last season (4.98 ERA, 1.66 WHIP) and will simply compete for a spot in the Cubs bullpen. He can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
Jonathan Holder was non-tendered by the Yankees on Wednesday and will become a free agent.
Holder sported a 4.98 ERA and a 14:11 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings with the Yankees in 2020. The 27-year old will look to latch on elsewhere in free agency but isn't anything more than a low-end bullpen arm.
Jonathan Holder pitched two innings out of the bullpen giving up two hits, one run, and had one strikeout in a 5-4 win over the Rays.
Jonathan Holder on the season has a 5.40 ERA with two strikeouts.
