Jorge Barrosa went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run as the Diamondbacks dropped a 10-4 decision to the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Fantasy Impact
Barrosa did not start, but replaced Corbin Carroll (back) as a defensive replacement in the top of the fifth inning. Carroll more than likely would've stayed in the game had the score not been 10-1. Barrosa then belted his first home run of the year - second of his career - off of Mason Fluharty in the seventh. He's having a nice start to the season, batting .240 with a home run and six RBI in 16 games, but he remains off the fantasy radar.
Barrosa is hitting .324 with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and eight RBI across 37 Cactus League plate appearances, and his ability to play all three outfield positions adds to his case for one of three remaining bench spots. Being out of minor-league options gives him a further advantage over the competition.
Fantasy Impact
The other candidates for those spots are Tim Tawa, Jacob Amaya and Ildemaro Vargas, with Amaya and Vargas both non-roster invitees who would require Arizona to clear 40-man roster space. Barrosa is also in line to provide outfield depth while Lourdes Gurriel (knee) works his way back.
The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled Jorge Barrosa from Triple-A Reno on Monday.
Fantasy Impact
Barrosa has been called back up to the Diamondbacks for the third time this season. While he's struggled in his major league appearances, going 4-for-36, he will provide valuable outfield depth for Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned Jorge Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Monday.
Fantasy Impact
After recording just one hit in his 15 at-bats with the Diamondbacks in August, Barrosa was optioned to Triple-A. In a corresponding move, Pavin Smith (oblique) was reinstated from the injured list.
