His stolen base was his fourth of the year, and is now 4-for-5 in steal attempts.. Fernandez snapped a 2-for-25 skid over his prior nine appearances, leading up to his two-game game on Saturday. Jose Fernandez has three hits, homers Sunday

Jose Fernandez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored on Sunday, helping the Diamondbacks to an 11-7 victory over the Padres.

Fantasy Impact

The rookie continues to rake at the major league level, taking San Diego starter Michael King deep in the fifth inning for his third home run of the year. It was his first round-tripper since going deep twice in his major league debut on March 31. Fernandez has had three multi-hit efforts in his last four games and is batting .342 (26-for-76) with three home runs and 12 RBI through 22 games.

Jose Fernandez bats cleanup Sunday; collects two hits

Jose Fernandez hit cleanup for the Diamondbacks on Sunday and went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Diamondbacks defeated the Phillies, 4-3, in Philadelphia.

Fantasy Impact

The rookie, who batted cleanup for the first time in his young career, had a pair of singles on Sunday, including a game-tying RBI single off of Phillies' reliever, Jose Alvarado, in the top of the eighth. He scored the go-ahead run later in the inning on a single from Adrian Del Castillo. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo continues to get Fernandez in the lineup since his call-up, and he has responded by hitting .333 (12-for-36) with two home runs and seven runs batted in through 11 games. He hit his two home runs in his major league debut and, after a mini 1-for-12 skid, has now hit safely in five straight and has gone 8-for-20 (.400) during the stretch.

Jose Fernandez steals first career base Sunday

Jose Fernandez went 0-for-4, but stole his first career base on Sunday as the Diamondbacks defeated the Braves, 6-5, in 10 innings.

Fantasy Impact

Fernandez reached base on a fielder's choice against Braves' reliever, Tyler Kinley, in the bottom of the sixth and then swiped second to get into scoring position with two outs. He stole a career-high 12 bases at Double-A Amarillo so he will run occasionally, but is not a tremendous threat to steal. Fernandez went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs in his major league debut on Tuesday but, since then, has gone just 1-for-12. Fernandez served as Arizona's designated hitter on Sunday after playing two games at first, one at third, and one at short to begin the season. Arizona is moving him around the diamond to get his bat in the lineup, but he needs to get back on track in order to stay in a near-everyday role.

Jose Fernandez has MLB debut to remember Tuesday

Jose Fernandez led an Arizona comeback on Tuesday as he finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs batted in during the Diamondbacks' 7-5 victory over the Tigers.

Fantasy Impact

Fernandez completed the Arizona comeback with his second home run of the game - a three-run shot off of Kenley Jansen with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to cap off an amazing major league debut for the rookie. Fernandez was called up on Monday after Pavin Smith went on the injured list and he gave Nolan Arenado the night off at third base on Tuesday. He reached on an infield single in his first career at bat and then hit his first home run in the fourth off of Detroit starter, Casey Mize. Fernandez became the eighth player in major league history to hit two home runs in their regular season debut with the most recent being Cleveland's Chase DeLauter on Opening Day. He was expected to serve as a reserve infielder, but his debut probably earned him more playing time in the short term while Smith recovers from his elbow injury. Arizona takes on Tarik Skubal and the Tigers on Wednesday.
