Ritchie set a new career high in strikeouts Tuesday night, as he delivered one of the strongest outings of his rookie campaign. Unfortunately, he took a loss, as the Braves could get absolutely nothing going with the bats. This effort should be a real confidence booster for Ritchie. The 23-year-old righty was hit hard by the Cubs in his previous outing, and he's bounced between Triple-A and the bigs throughout the season. Ritchie could be in line to start the Braves' regular-season finale on Sunday in Miami.

Ritchie was called up to start for the first time since August 2, but the rookie drew one of the toughest matchups in the league. The Cubs' potent offense scored in four of the five innings in which Ritchie pitched, clubbing six extra-base hits off the rookie. Ritchie has shown some flashes of future promise at times this season, but overall, the 23-year-old has posted a 5.03 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 62 2/3 MLB innings.
