Juan Morillo pitched a perfect tenth inning on Wednesday to pick up his first save of the season as the Diamondbacks earned an 8-5, 10-inning victory over the Orioles.
Fantasy Impact
Morillo was called upon to preserve a three-run lead in the bottom of the tenth and he needed just 11 pitches to retire the Orioles in order. The save was the second of his major league career as he bounced back nicely from his rough performance the night before. Morillo has a 3.00 ERA with six holds this season for Arizona. He gave closer Paul Sewald a breather on Wednesday and appears to be next in line for save opportunities should anything happen.
Juan Morillo retired four of the five batters he faced - three via strikeout - for his fifth hold of the season as the Diamondbacks knocked off the Phillies, 5-4 on Friday.
Fantasy Impact
Morillo is now tied with Cleveland's Erik Sabrowski for the major league lead with five holds this season. He retired Kyle Schwarber to end the seventh, then struck out the side in the eighth, pitching around a two-out single by Bryson Stott. Morillo was not a lock to break camp on the Diamondbacks' roster, but he has been pitching well in high-leverage situations and has as many holds this year as he did in 42 appearances last season. He has a 2.45 ERA in 7.1 innings with a 7:2 K:BB ratio. If your league rewards holds, Morillo is definitely worth a look.
Juan Morillo pitched a perfect seventh inning for his fourth hold of the season. However, the Diamondbacks fell to the Mets, 4-3, in 10 innings on Tuesday.
Fantasy Impact
Morillo cracked the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster and has pitched in seven of the team's first 11 games. He pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning, inducing two groundouts and a pop-up, and is now tied for the National League lead, with Cincinnati's Tony Santillan, with four holds. The righthander has a 3.00 ERA through six innings and has limited opponents to a .100 batting average. Morillo will continue to be a bridge to closer Paul Sewald, but could possibly challenge for save opportunities if Sewald falters.
D-backs reliever Juan Morillo has made the Opening Day roster.
Fantasy Impact
Morillo certainly pitched his way onto the Opening Day roster by allowing just one earned run with eight strikeouts against two walks in 8 1/3 innings of Cactus League action this spring. The 27-year-old made his MLB debut in 2025, posting a decent 4.19 ERA across 42 outings.
The D-backs have recalled right-hander Aaron Hughes from Triple-A Reno.
Fantasy Impact
Morillo has shuttled back and forth between the D-backs and Aces this season, posting a 4.55 ERA in the big leagues across 38 appearances. Veteran Anthony DeSclafani was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
