With one at-bat Monday, Kyle Jensen went yard for the fifth time this spring to tie for the home run lead. He's now hitting a cool .545.
Fantasy Impact
Jensen is obviously having a monster spring, but he's far from a lock to make the team. He's certainly opening some eyes though, and those in NL-only leagues should keep an eye on him.
I was pretty sure that Kyle Jensen had less than a one percent chance of making the Giants out of spring training. After all, he's been a pro for nine years and has had 31 ABs in The Show. But the soon to be 30-year-old could not be hotter. Yesterday's third-inning homer was his fourth in nine at-bats. He also has another hit to keep his average over .500. And to put icing on his cake, one of his home runs was a walk-off grand slam!
Fantasy Impact
The Giants will likely have to decide against Pablo Sandoval to keep Jensen as their 25th man.
Kyle Jensen has been a professional for nine years. He's had 31 at-bats at the major league level. With the Giants, he's had seven at-bats this spring. He's had three home runs, one a walk-off grand slam. Overall, he's 4-of-7.
Fantasy Impact
Jensen probably won't make a major league team, but he's putting forth his best effort. He'll be 30 years old later this year and it's hard to imagine him beating out Pablo Sandoval for a corner infield gig, or beating out the seven players vying for two backup outfield jobs. But if he continues to hit homers at this rate, he's bound to open some eyes. Unfortunately, he still needs three more weeks of Babe Ruth impersonations to make much noise.
