LaTroy Hawkins entered Saturday's contest looking to keep the game tied. He did just that by pitching a perfect ninth inning. The Rockies would drive home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth and Hawkins was credited with the win.
Fantasy Impact
Hawkins is now 2-1 on the season with a 3.72 ERA and two saves in 21 appearances. While he was never given back the closer role as injuries happened, he has been a steady presence in the bullpen.
John Axford was placed on the 7-day family emergency list, so it was LaTroy Hawkins who got the save opportunity on Tuesday night. He pitched a 1-2-3 inning for his second save of the season.
Fantasy Impact
Hawkins entered the season as the Rox closer, but due to poor play early on, and then a DL stint, he was supplanted by John Axford. Axford has pitched well in his time as closer, but if Hawkins can nail down a few saves in his absence it might be a situation to keep an eye on.
LaTroy Hawkins has made two scoreless appearances since his activation from the DL on June 11th. The latest came on Saturday in a loss to the Marlins.
Fantasy Impact
Hawkins opened the season as the Rockies' closer, but plagued by injury and poor performance he has seen John Axford take over. Axford is by no means an untouchable pitcher, although he has pitched very well since taking over the spot. It will take a lot of fantastic performances by Hawkins, and a lot of pretty bad ones by Axford to see a change in the Rox closer role.
LaTroy Hawkins allowed four hits and two runs, losing the save but finding a win against the Brewers when Wilin Rosario pinch hit a homer to center in the bottom of the 10th.
Fantasy Impact
Despite his advanced age of 42, LaTroy Hawkins is the Rockies closer until further notice. If Hawkins stumbles, the Rockies have Adam Ottavino and John Axford waiting in the wings
Rockies veteran relief pitcher, 42 years old LaTroy Hawkins, struggled this spring. But despite a 12.79 ERA in 6.1 IP the Rockies remains confident Hawkins can get the closers job done. The Rockies plan last season was for Rex Brothers to take over the closer job. But Brothers failure coming out of the pen, and Hawk's determination found LaTroy holding onto the closer job.
Fantasy Impact
The question is not if LaTroy Hawkins can get the job done as the Rockies closer for 2015, but but how many save chances will come Hawk's way? As with all Rockies pitchers, proceed with caution before starting in any fantasy format especially in weeks that find the Rockies on the road
