Luis Patino made an emergency start on Saturday against the Padres, giving up a run on three hits over 1 2/3 innings.
Patino started a bullpen game for San Diego after the team had to scratch Mike Clevinger from the start. The top prospect has given up 10 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings on the year. He'll likely be a bigger part of the Padres' pitching plans in 2021.
Luis Patino gave up a three-run homer to Joc Pederson in his MLB debut on Wednesday night.
Patino came out of the bullpen and wound up giving up three runs on three hits over two innings pitched. He struck out two and pitched well minus the long ball. Unless the top prospect enters the rotation or starts getting saves, which is unlikely, he doesn't have much fantasy value in redraft leagues.
The Athletic's Dennis Lin reports the Padres are calling up top prospect Luis Patino.
Patino is a 20-year-old pitching phenom who posted a 2.57 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A last year. In 94 2/3 innings he struck out 123 while walking 38. Patino is expected to work out of the bullpen early on, which limits his fantasy appeal. If he eventually gets a chance to start then he'll be worth adding in most mixed leagues.
