The Royals have recalled right-hander Mason Black from Triple-A Omaha.
Fantasy Impact

Righthander Mason Black has been optioned to Triple-A Omaha by the Kansas City Royals.
Fantasy Impact
Black had a sensational spring, tossing eight scoreless innings, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out eight. The righthander came up as a starter in the Giants' organization and made ten appearances - eight starts - with San Francisco in 2024 and 2025 before being traded to the Royals last November. He has a career ERA of 6.47 in 40.1 innings at the major league level. However, the Royals are looking to use Black out of the bullpen as all six of his appearances in the spring came in relief. He will open the year at Triple-A Omaha, but could find himself in a middle relief role in Kansas City at some point this season.
The Royals acquired right-hander Mason Black from the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for Logan Martin. Black had been designated for assignment by San Francisco last week and will now join Kansas City’s 40-man roster. The 25-year-old spent most of the 2025 season at Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 114 strikeouts and 62 walks across 119.1 innings.
Fantasy Impact
Black has primarily worked as a starter in the minors, though it’s unclear whether the Royals intend to keep him in that role. He still has minor-league options remaining.
