Matt Brash recorded the save on Sunday against the Blue Jays, working around one hit to toss a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Fantasy Impact
Brash entered the game in the 10th inning with the Mariners leading 10-8. He was able to work around a jam with runners on the corners and one out to help the Mariners avoid the sweep against Toronto. Brash has had a handful of disappointing appearances this season but he should continue to work in high leverage situations out of the Mariners bullpen, especially while Andres Munoz (shoulder) remains sidelined.
Matt Brash blew a save opportunity on Sunday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on two hits across one inning to go along with three strikeouts and one walk.
Fantasy Impact
With Andres Munoz (shoulder) placed on the IL Sunday morning and Paul Sewald having pitched the previous two days, Brash earned the nod looking to hold onto a 3-1 Mariners lead. He had pitched well early in the season entering Sunday, but didn't have his best control against Cleveland walking Josh Naylor and allowing a single to Andres Gimenez. He struck out Josh Bell for the second out, but Will Brennan laced a two-run double to tie the game. It was a little unlucky as Teoscar Hernandez got turned around in right field, but Brash also fell behind 2-0 in the count and threw a slider over the plate. Sewald should remain the primary closer for the Mariners, but Brash is still going to see high leverage opportunities. He is well worth rostering in leagues that favor both saves and holds.
Matt Brash earned the win Saturday against the Blue Jays, tossing a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.
Fantasy Impact
After getting recalled from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the afternoon, Brash took the mound in relief for Robbie Ray in the seventh inning with Seattle trailing 1-0. He was able to toss a 1-2-3 inning that including a strikeout of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on a 13 pitch at-bat. After opening the season in the Mariners starting rotation, he now looks to carry a critical role as part of a strong Mariners bullpen.
The Mariners called up Matt Brash Saturday from Triple-A Tacoma.
Fantasy Impact
Brash opened up the season as the No. 5 starter in the Mariners rotation, but command issues led to him being sent down to the minor leagues where he transitioned into a relief role. After crushing it out of the bullpen in Triple-A, Brash will look to carry that momentum into a strong Mariners bullpen.
Matt Brash was optioned to AAA by the Mariners on Thursday.
Fantasy Impact
Brash’s demotion to AAA comes a day after he gave up four earned runs in only three innings against the Astros. It hasn’t been a great start to his MLB career for Brash, who is sporting a 7.65 ERA and 2.05 WHIP on the season. Hopefully, he will work out the kinks at AAA and find more success when he is eventually recalled.
