Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Michael Grove won’t be in the rotation for at least this turn.
Roberts added that Grove could be available in relief on Friday or Saturday. Roberts said he hasn’t determined Ryan Yarbrough’s role yet. He’s been a starter and reliever in the past. He is joining the club on Friday, so he could make an appearance in some fashion this weekend.
Michael Grove went 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts on Monday as the Dodgers fell to the Blue Jays.
Grove yielded two earned runs in his 4 2/3 innings of work as part of an extra-innings defeat to Toronto. The right-hander now sports a 6.19 ERA in 13 appearances (10 starts) on the season but his 4.25 SIERA suggest he should see improvement moving forward.
The right-hander allowed just one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out four, bringing his season totals to a 6.40 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP, and a 2-2 record in nine starts.
Despite some struggles, Grove's 8.1 K/9 and 2.76 strikeout-to-walk ratio show promise for the remainder of the season.
Michael Grove has been recalled from Triple-A and will start on Monday against the Pirates.
Grove will take the mound with Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) placed on the injured list. He has posted a 7.54 ERA with the Dodgers so far this year across nine appearances and seven starts.
