Nate Schierholtz joins crowded Rangers outfield
The Texas Rangers continued to add veteran options in their quest to find a starting left fielder by signing Nate Schierholtz to a minor league deal. He will be invited to the major league camp for spring training.
Fantasy Impact
Schierholtz spent the 2014 season with the Cubs and Nationals and was a disappointment, hitting a combined .195 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 122 games. Still, at just 31 years of age, Schierholtz could be a viable option for the Rangers as they sort between returners Michael Choice (.182-9-36), Ryan Rua (.295-2-14), Jake Smolinski (.349-3-12) and the recently acquired Ryan Ludwick (.244-9-45). A left hand hitter, Schierholtz's best season came in 2013 when he hit .251-21-68 for the Chicago Cubs.
