Nate Jones traded to the Rangers

Nate Jones and cash considerations was traded from the White Sox to the Rangers in exchange for minor league pitchers Joe Jarneski and Ray Castro.

Fantasy Impact

Jones is on the mend from surgery to address a right forearm strain and has been ruled out the rest of the 2019 season. His contract contains a $3.75 million club option for 2020. Jones will give the Rangers added bullpen depth in 2020.

Nate Jones earns save in rain-shortened game

Chicago White Sox reliever Nate Jones earned his first save of the season in a rain-shortened 9-6 win over the Yankees on Friday. Jones got one out in the game.

Fantasy Impact

Jones lucked into the save as he got the final out of the sixth inning before the game was called due to rain. Alex Colome remains the team's closer with Jones serving as just a bullpen depth piece. Overall, Jones has a 5.06 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Nate Jones sticking around for 2019

The Chicago White Sox have picked up Nate Jones' option, signing him through the 2019 season.

Fantasy Impact

Jones will make $4.65M next season with the White Sox. He threw just 30 innings in 2018, going 2-2 with five saves and an ERA of 3.00. The move makes a lot of sense, but Jones hasn't exactly been healthy either. He has pitched in high-leverage situations and even recorded a few saves, but that's the only way he'll be fantasy relevant. Until then, it's best to target other relievers.

Nate Jones implodes against Indians

Nate Jones was lit up on Monday, surrendering three runs over just 1/3 of an inning.

Fantasy Impact

This came after I gave him so much praise since he had a streak of 17 scoreless appearances going. Jones gave up five hits and allowed three runs to score in the 9th inning. That's a big hit for him, but we'll see how he responds next time out. He doesn't have much fantasy value, but could be auditioning for a higher-leverage role in 2019.

Nate Jones remains a solid bullpen option

Nate Jones hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 17 appearances. He has four saves over that span.

Fantasy Impact

Jones missed some time with an injury, but when he has played, he's provided solid numbers. He's allowed just seven earned runs over 28 2/3 innings this season, and four of those came in one brutal outing. Jace Fry is tabbed as the White Sox closer, but Jones shouldn't be overlooked heading into next season. He's a player to keep an eye on for next year.
