After allowing four runs to the poor-hitting Phillies lineup and taking an extra-innings loss on Sunday, Nick Masset was DFA'd by the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Impact
Masset, generally a decent middle-relief option, had been horrible for the Braves in 2015. In 15.1 innings he allowed 18 hits and eight walks and gave up plenty of runs to plump his ERA up to 6.46 and an ERA+ of 60. He will look to rebound with a new team if he doesn't accept a minor-league assignment.
Nick Masset pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Braves on Tuesday night, recording a strikeout.
Fantasy Impact
Masset was pitching well for the Marlins (9.2 IP, 1.86 ERA) before clearing waivers and electing free agency. While he didn't fit into the plans of the Marlins, he should be a nice fit for the Braves. In terms of fantasy value, don't be surprised if he piles up some holds in 2015.
Former Miami Marlins reliever Nick Masset has signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Impact
Masset was designated for assignment by the Marlins and became a free agent. It didn't take long for him to latch on with another NL East club. Masset has a nice ERA in 2015 (1.86) but all other stats show he's been more lucky than good (over .300 batting average against)
Miami Marlins reliever Nick Masset was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday in order to make room for the return on Henderson Alvarez.
Fantasy Impact
Masset was first designated for assignment, but cleared waivers and will return to Triple-A. He had a nice 1.86 ERA, but was allowing a .308 batting average against. It was only a matter of time until his ERA skyrocketed. He'll likely be back and forth between Miami and New Orleans a few times this season, but he holds no fantasy value regardless.
Miami Marlins reliever Nick Masset provided his club with two innings of mop-up duty in a game that was already out of reach. He gave up only two hits and notched two strikeouts.
Fantasy Impact
Masset's ERA dropped to 2.08 and despite today's mop-up innings, he seems to be getting significant late game innings from manager Mike Redmond. He's unlikely to play a role in the Marlins' save situations, but Redmond seems to like giving him the ball. He's at least worth keeping an eye on in case he's given save opportunities.
