Robert Suarez was eased off his throwing program in mid-April when he continued to feel tightness in his right elbow.
Fantasy Impact
Suarez is dealing with joint inflammation in the back of his right elbow. He underwent tests that revealed no structural damage which led to him playing catch and then easing into a throwing program, but continued to feel tightness which led to him being shut down. The Padres remain cautious with him and he remains without a timetable to return.
Robert Suarez agreed to a five-year, $46 million deal with San Diego.
Fantasy Impact
Suarez's deal includes an opt-out after year three of the contract. Suarez saw success in his first year in San Diego, posting a 2.27 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched with 61 strikeouts.
Robert Suarez is continuing to rehab from right knee surgery by starting a throwing program and playing catch up to 90 feet. He is expected to return to the team sometime during the second half.
Fantasy Impact
Suarez pitched in 22 games prior to landing on the IL. The 31-year-old has a 3.09 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 11.19 K/9 ratio, and a 5.01 BB/9. Although the walks are an issue, he is holding opponents to an impressive .152 batting average this season. He is worth a pickup if he is on waivers in your league and you can afford the roster spot.
Robert Suarez had knee surgery on Friday after landing on the 15-day injured list on June 7 with right knee inflammation.
Fantasy Impact
Suarez had arthroscopic surgery to clean up 'some loose impediments' in his knee but is not expected to miss significant time. He'll take some time to rest and will look to begin throwing again in a few weeks. He hasn't really been on the fantasy radar this season collecting a single save with two wins and a 3.09 ERA over 23 innings pitched.
Padres reliever Robert Suarez picked up his first save of the season in an 8-7 win vs. the Giants in 10 innings. He allowed an unearned run, giving up a hit and struck out one.
Fantasy Impact
San Diego closer Taylor Rogers was unavailable tonight. That prompted the Padres to go with Luis Garcia to try and close it out in the 9th. He allowed two runs and blew the save, but San Diego scored two in the top of the 10th, setting up Suarez for the save.
