As announced Friday afternoon, Ronald Guzman will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus, ending the 26-year-old's season.
The injury that landed Guzman on the 10-day IL on April 12th will now force the first baseman to miss the rest of 2021. Guzman's season ends with his lone hit leaving Globe Life Field.
The Rangers placed Ronald Guzman on the 10-day IL with a meniscus cartilage tear in his right knee.
After looking like he had perhaps turned a corner in the spring, Guzman was slashing just .063/.118/.250 this year. He's likely going to miss significant time with the injury, which he sustained during his first career start in left field. There's no reason to hold onto Guzman in any format at this point. Adolis Garcia was selected from the alternate site to take Guzman's place on the roster.
Ronald Guzman exited the Rangers' game against the Rays in the first inning on Monday with an apparent leg injury.
Guzman got a late break on a pop fly to shallow left field and had to make an awkward maneuver to avoid colliding with shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Guzman immediately pulled up and began grabbing at his leg. Guzman had to be carted off the field, as he could not walk off under his own power. Eli White took over in LF as Guzman's replacement. We'll continue monitoring reports on Guzman's injury as they come out.
Batting sixth and slotting in as the designated hitter, Ronald Guzman had little success on Saturday. He finished the game 0-for-3 with a walk and strikeout.
Guzman's batting average has now dropped to .067 on the season. Through 15 at-bats, he has just one hit (a home run) and five strikeouts. The 26-year-old will need to turn things around soon in order to keep his place on the roster, especially when slugger Khris Davis returns from the IL.
Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman got his second start of the year on Tuesday against the Blue Jays. During the contest, he logged his first hit of the campaign: a solo shot in the second inning off Tanner Roark.
Outside of the homer, Guzman was hitless, going 1-for-4 with one strikeout. He's now 1-for-9 over three games (two starts) and provides no fantasy appeal.
