Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY reports that Ryan Buchter has agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal.
Fantasy Impact
Buchter had a 2.75 ERA across 39.1 innings last year. While he is a very useful real life reliever, the crafty lefty is better left off fantasy rosters in 2019.
Ryan Buchter pitched one inning giving up one hit while striking out two batters to earn his 12th hold of the season.
Fantasy Impact
Buchter has pitched very well for the Padres this season. Butcher is a safe pickup off the wire and will give you plenty of strike outs as well as holds. With trade rumors surrounding Brad Hand and maybe Brandon Maurer, Buchter could find himself in much bigger role in the near future for the Padres.
With the trade that sent Fernando Rodney to the Marlins, Ryan Buchter is expected to claim the role of Padres' closer moving forward.
Fantasy Impact
Buchter is the clear top option out of the Padres' bullpen. His latest outing is likely to be his worst of the season (three hits, three walks, five ER over 1/3 inning versus O's), and even with this his ratios are still solid on the season (2.91 ERA, 1.18 WHIP). He provides solid strikeout upside and has allowed only 22 hits in 34 innings pitched. He likely won't see many save opportunities considering the team he's pitching for
