Sal Frelick underwent successful surgery to repair the UCL in his left thumb. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.
The 23-year-old will be forced to miss extended time due to his thumb. He was hitting .232 with a .638 OPS, so he will have some work to do both in his recovery and on the field until we see him in the big leagues.
The Milwaukee Brewers have reassigned prospect Sal Frelick to minor-league camp.
Frelick recently participated in the World Baseball Classic for Team Itlay and hit .304 with three doubles and a .768 OPS across 23 at-bats. The 22-year-old is on the cusp of making his MLB debut after he hit .365 with four homers, nine steals, and a .943 OPS across 46 games at Triple-A in 2022. He hasn't hit for a ton of power in the minors but has speed, plate discipline, and elite contact skills that should have him in the big leagues sooner than later.
The Brewers promoted OF Sal Frelick to High-A Wisconsin.
Frelick has hit .442/.500/.605 between 20 games at rookie ball and Low-A, and it's clear he's ready for some tougher competition. Frelick was the 15th overall pick in this year's draft and could be a consensus top 100 prospect entering 2022.
The Brewers signed 2021 first-round pick, OF Sal Frelick.
The Boston College product will receive $4 million, which is just over slot for the No. 15 overall selection. Frelick hit .359/.443/.559 in 48 games for BC this season.
The Brewers have selected Boston College outfielder Sal Frelick with the 15th overall selection in the 2021 MLB Draft.
Frelick is a talented athlete who was a three-sport standout in high school. He looked really solid at Boston College, logging more walks than strikeouts between 2019 and 2020. He also possesses really impressive speed in addition to top-tier athleticism and elite defensive ability, which bodes well for his long-term projectability in center field.
