The surgery would wipe him out for the entire season. Perez suffered the elbow injury during Wednesday’s workout. It’s a brutal blow to an already weak catcher position in fantasy. There is now one less option for fantasy players who want to snag a backstop reasonably early in drafts.

Salvador Perez suffers severe elbow injury during Wednesday workout

Salvador Perez suffered a severe elbow injury during a workout in Royals camp on Wednesday. He had an MRI on Thursday which showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). He will get a second opinion next week from Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Fantasy Impact

This is horrible news for a position that is already hard to fill on fantasy rosters. Depending upon the severity of the damage, Perez could require Tommy John Surgery which would eliminate him from playing at all this season. It's a huge blow to the Royals and fantasy rosters everywhere.

Salvador Perez singles against Detroit

Salvador Perez went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk in Friday's loss versus the Tigers.

Fantasy Impact

Salvy was 0-for-8 the past two games and just 3-for-24 the last week with one RBI. As fantasy baseball winds down, production is key to winning your league championship. While Perez is hard to bet against, picking up the Twins hot-hitting catcher Willians Astudillo off the waiver wire and starting him over Salvy is the way to go.
