Slade Heathcott turning heads this spring

Yankees prospect, Slade Heathcott, added two more hits on Thursday, raising his spring average to .355. He also plated a run and scored in the contest.

Fantasy Impact

Slade Heathcott has been plagued by injuries throughout his minor league career and is looking to stay healthy and earn his shot in the Big Leagues. If the athletic outfielder can stay healthy, there is a good chance he could get his first cup of coffee in the Bronx this summer.

Slade Heathcott is the best player in camp for the Yankees

Slade Heathcott was 1-1 with his fourth RBI of the spring. Heathcott is now 6-12 this spring with five runs scored, four RBI, and two SB.

Fantasy Impact

With Chris Young and Ramon Flores struggling in the race for fourth OF, Slade Heathcott may find a way to be a part of the Yankees rotation in the OF in 2015. He has been injured in the past, but there is no question about his skills and could be a dark horse if he stays healthy. Slade Heathcott's skill set right now is similar to Brett Gardner's and could be in the Bronx by late 2015 or early 2016.

Slade Heathcott shows more of his profile

Slade Heathcott only had one at bat, and grounded into a fielder's choice, but once he got on base he stole two bases and scored a run. Those were the first two steals of the spring for Heathcott

Fantasy Impact

This shows the promise for Heathcott, as he was seen as a someone that could steal 20 or more bases per season. Heathcott has shown his elite profile this spring, but he needs to have a full healthy season in AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre. If he shows the promise during the season that he has in Spring Training, he may be up in the majors very quickly.

Slade Heathcott does not get a hit, but stays consistent

Slade Heathcott was hitless in two at-bats, dropping his average to .500 for the spring, but he walked to maintain his on base streak for the spring.

Fantasy Impact

Heathcott is the most pleasant surprise for the Yankees this spring and is fulfilling the promise of being a former first round pick in 2009. Heathcott knew this was his last chance for the Yankees, as he signed a minor league contract for the season, and has four runs scored and three RBI to go with his outstanding batting average this spring. Heathcott should open the season in AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre and could be the fourth OF in the majors this year if Ramon Flores or Chris Young is ineffective.

Slade Heathcott cannot do more to prove his value

Slade Heathcott came in late against the Rays and had an RBI single and scored a run. Heathcott has four hits in five at bats this spring, walking twice as well.

Fantasy Impact

Heathcott has had injuries in the past, but the Yankees had faith in him that led to them extending a minor league contract for him. He has more than lived up to his potential this spring, potential that led to the Yankees drafting him in the first round. He will open the season in either AA Trenton or AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre, wherever he can get at-bats in the crowded Yankees OF prospect pool that includes Tyler Austin, Aaron Judge, Mason Williams, and Ramon Flores.
