The Orioles have granted infielder Thairo Estrada his release.
Fantasy Impact
Estrada inked a minors deal with the O's in late February but was unable to make the Opening Day roster after going just 2-for-25 (.080) without a walk or an extra-base hit in 25 trips to the plate. The 30-year-old has hit .251 with 51 homers, 53 stolen bases, and a .691 OPS across 508 games played in the majors.
Thairo Estrada has agreed to a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles. The deal includes an invitation to spring training.
Fantasy Impact
Estrada has played parts of seven seasons at the big league level and, most recently, batted .253 in 39 games with the Rockies last season. The infielder enjoyed success with the Giants in 2022 and 2023, combining to hit .266 with 28 home runs and 111 RBI in 260 games. He also stole 44 bases combined over those two seasons. Estrada is primarily a second baseman but does have experience at short, third base, and left field. Given his experience and versatility in the majors, Estrada has a decent chance to crack Baltimore's opening day roster.
Thairo Estrada (hamstring) has elected to become a free agent after he cleared waivers on Thursday. The infielder was placed on waivers after the Rockies declined to pick up his $7 million mutual option for the 2026 season.
Fantasy Impact
Numerous injuries limited the 29-year-old to just 39 MLB games during the 2025 season, in which he slashed .253/.285/.370 across 165 plate appearances. Estrada's injury history combined with his poor offensive performance may limit his options on the open market.
The Rockies transferred Thairo Estrada to the 60-day injured list.
Fantasy Impact
The move opens up a roster spot for Colorado. Estrada landed on the injured list earlier this week.
The Rockies placed INF Thairo Estrada on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Fantasy Impact
Estrada has been limited to 39 games this season as he has dealt with multiple injuries. He does not have a timetable to return.
