Detroit Tigers infielder Tyler Nevin has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain on his left side.
Fantasy Impact
Nevin is without a timetable to return but has been shut down from all baseball activities given the diagnosis. MLB's Health and Injury Tracking System revealed that hitters with this type of injury tend to miss about 27 days of time, so Nevin's Opening Day status is certainly impacted. The 25-year-old saw action at third base, first base, left field, and right field in his 58 games for the Orioles last season but scuffled to a .197 average with just two homers and a .560 OPS across 184 trips to the plate. He was in competition for reps at third base for the Tigers in 2023 but will likely begin his season at Triple-A Toledo once he returns to health.
Detroit Tigers infielder Tyler Nevin will undergo an MRI on his oblique after reporting soreness following Tuesday's batting practice.
Fantasy Impact
Nevin is one of a handful of Tigers infielders competing for reps at third base while he's also seen some time at first base this spring. Nevin struggled to a .197 average with two homers and a .560 OPS across 58 games with the Orioles last season but fared much better with a .291 average, seven homers, four steals, and an .861 OPS across 44 games at the Triple-A level.
Detroit Tigers infielder Tyler Nevin hit a home run for the second straight day Thursday.
Fantasy Impact
Nevin is one of many Tigers infielders competing for reps at third base this spring and he's making a strong case early. Thursday's homer came against his former team as he appeared in 58 games for Baltimore last season, scuffling to a .197 average and .560 OPS with two homers across 184 trips to the plate. The 25-year-old remains in a logjam to crack the Opening Day roster.
Tyler Nevin went 2-for-4 with two singles in Sunday's 0-6 loss to the Yankees.
Fantasy Impact
Nevin got the start for the first time since July 16 as his batting average is back at the .200 mark for the first time since June 18. The 25-year-old has recorded 17 runs, 27 hits, two home runs, and 15 RBIs in 135 at-bats this season.
Tyler Nevin went 1-for-3 with a RBI double and a walk in Saturday's 3-4 loss to the Twins.
Fantasy Impact
The double was Nevin's third on the season. The Poway native has 17 runs, two homers, and 14 RBIs in 40 games played. With a .183/.303/.258 line, the 25-year-old is not currently fantasy relevant.
