Walbert Urena goes five scoreless in win over A's on Saturday

Walbert Urena allowed four hits in five scoreless innings on Saturday as the Angels blanked the Athletics, 7-0.

Fantasy Impact

Urena did not issue a walk and struck out six to even his record at 5-5 this season. Saturday's start was the first time in his 14 appearances (12 starts) that he did not allow a walk. The rookie righthander has gone 4-1 with a 1.80 ERA and a 38:18 K:BB ratio in 40 innings over his last seven outings. While he has given up a high number of walks (35 in 67.1 innings), Urena is holding opponents to a .212 batting average and has struck out nearly a batter an inning (64 strikeouts). He's lined up to get the Athletics again on Friday in his next start - this time at home.

Walbert Urena earns third win of season Wednesday

Walbert Urena tossed six innings and allowed three runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out seven to earn his third win of the year in the Angels' 10-4 victory over the Rockies on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

Urena allowed only three hits, but gave up three runs in a game for the first time since April 25, snapping a string of six straight outings of two earned runs or fewer. Urena is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over his last seven starts and, overall, is 3-4 with a 2.68 ERA in 11 appearances (nine starts) in his rookie season. He's lined up to take on the Astros, at home, in his next start on Tuesday and, he should be rostered in all formats at this point.

Walbert Urena settles for no-decision Friday

Walbert Urena allowed one run on five hits over six innings on Friday as the Rays defeated the Angels, 8-5.

Fantasy Impact

Urena walked three and struck out five over his six innings and left with a 2-1 lead. But, the Angels' bullpen imploded in the seventh as the Rays scored seven times to erase Urena's chance at a victory. The righthander threw 92 pitches - 60 for strikes - and the only run he allowed was a leadoff home run by Yandy Diaz in the bottom of the first. Urena has been excellent this month and has essentially come out of nowhere to be a reliable option in the Angels' rotation. After posting a career ERA of 4.67 across 362.2 minor league innings, Urena is 2-4 but has a 2.44 ERA in 10 appearances (eight starts) with the Angels this season. He has been even better in May, going 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA in six starts and has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his outings this month. He's scheduled for a home start against the Rockies on Wednesday in his next time out.

Walbert Urena posts another solid start in win over Texas

Walbert Urena allowed one run on five hits, walked three, and struck out six in five solid innings on Saturday, helping the Angels to a 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Fantasy Impact

Urena picked up his second victory of the season and has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his seven starts this season. His six strikeouts were two shy of his career-high of eight he had back on April 19. Urena is having a very good, under-the-radar month of May, pitching to a 1.67 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in five starts with a 23:12 K:BB ratio in 27 innings. While he's not a huge strikeout arm and can be a little erratic at times (36:22 K:BB ratio in 38.1 innings), Urena should be owned in far more leagues than he is at the moment. If he's available in your league, you may want to grab him before it's too late. He does, however, have a tough road matchup against the Rays on Friday in his next scheduled start.

Walbert Urena blanks Athletics for six innings Monday

Walbert Urena tossed six scoreless innings on Monday, allowing only four hits while walking two and striking out four. He did not factor in the decision.

Fantasy Impact

Urena went toe-to-toe with Athletics' starter, J.T. Ginn, who carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning on Monday. Urena allowed three singles and a double, but allowed just one runner to get to third base. It was the first scoreless start of Urena's brief big league career and the young righthander has now pitched to a 1.64 ERA in four starts this month. Overall, he sports a 1-4 record with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in eight appearances (six starts). He is scheduled to pitch against the Rangers on Saturday and he may be worth a flier in deeper leagues considering the way he has been throwing lately.
