Walbert Urena earns first career win Wednesday

Walbert Urena allowed a run on two hits in six innings on Wednesday to earn his first career victory. He walked three and struck out five as the Angels knocked off the White Sox, 8-2.

Fantasy Impact

Urena was nearly perfect other than the second inning on Wednesday as he allowed a run on two hits and two walks in the frame. The young righthander allowed just one baserunner in his other five innings - a walk to Chase Meidroth to lead off the fourth. In May, Urena has pitched to a 1.64 ERA in two starts, limiting opponents to a .118 batting average across 11 innings. Overall, he is 1-3 with a 3.22 ERA in six appearances (four starts), but his 22:16 K:BB ratio in 22.1 innings is less than ideal. Urena is scheduled to take on the Guardians, in Cleveland, on Tuesday.

Walbert Urena (knee) optimistic to make next start

Walbert Urena believes he will be able to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox

Fantasy Impact

Urena exited Friday’s game against the New York Mets after taking a 102.6 mph liner off his right knee in the top of the sixth inning, but his removal was deemed precautionary. He experienced soreness on Saturday, though he still believes he will be able to make his next start on Wednesday.

Walbert Urena (leg) hit by comebacker after five strong innings

Walbert Urena (leg) had to leave Friday's game after getting hit by a line drive in the leg in the top of the sixth inning.

Fantasy Impact

Urena had pitched well up to that point, going five innings and allowing just a run on two hits while walking three and striking out four. However, the Mets' Bo Bichette led off the sixth with a 102.6 mph line drive off of Urena's right leg which forced him out of the game. An encouraging sign, however, was that he was able to throw warmup pitches to try to stay in the game before the Angels' medical staff decided to not take any chances. Urena is tentatively lined up to pitch against the White Sox on Wednesday, but more updates should be provided soon on Urena's status leading up to his next scheduled outing.

Walbert Urena roughed up in second career start

Walbert Urena made his second career start on Saturday and allowed four runs on six hits, walked five, and struck out three over 3.2 innings of work. The Angels lost toe the Royals, 12-1.

Fantasy Impact

Urena was given another start after a strong debut in the rotation but, it did not go terribly well. The young righthander allowed 11 baserunners in 3.2 innings and needed 81 pitches to record 11 outs. Urena is now 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA and a 2.21 WHIP over 11.1 innings. His next turn in the rotation would be on Friday against the Mets but, after Saturday's outing, Urena is not guaranteed to get the ball. Regardless, he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
