Yusniel Diaz is 'really close' to joining the major league roster, per Orioles manager Brandon Hydge.
Diaz came to the Orioles in the Manny Machado trade, and finished 2019 at Double A, sporting a 135 wRC+. Whenever he does come up, he should find close to everyday playing time in left field.
Yusniel Diaz has been added to the Orioles' player pool and will report to the team's alternate site at Double A.
Diaz was bound to get included in the player pool to continue his player development. He is on pace to make his major league debut at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. Look for him to provide some pop once he arrives.
Yusniel Diaz, a top ten prospect for the Orioles, was left off the initial 60-man player pool that was released on Sunday.
Diaz came over in the Manny Machado trade, and was expected to join the 60-man roster to continue his development. The Orioles have filled only 44 of the spots so far, so look for him to be added over the next week or two. Diaz, with league-average tools across the board, figures to make his big league debut in early 2021.
Yusniel Diaz subbed as a pinch runner in Tuesday's game against the Braves and stayed in the game to play center field. He tripled in his only at-bat, driving in a run.
Diaz had been nursing a shoulder injury last week, so it's good to see him back in the lineup. He will likely start in the minors and should be called up this year.
Orioles prospect outfielder Yusniel Diaz will miss a few days with a minor left shoulder issue.
The injury doesn't sound too serious. Acquired as part of the Manny Machado trade with the Dodgers a couple of years back, the 23-year-old Diaz hit .262/.335/.472 with 11 homers over 76 games at the Double-A level last season. His stock has faded a little bit, but he's likely to climb to the major league level this year.
