Zach Davies agreed to a one-year, $8.63 million deal with the Cubs to avoid arbitration.
Davies was able to avoid arbitration in his final year of eligibility. He just arrived in Chicago from San Diego as part of the Yu Darvish deal.
The Padres have reportedly traded RHP Zach Davies, SS Reggie Preciado, SS Yeison Santana, OF Owen Caissie and OF Ismael Mena to the Cubs in exchange for ace Yu Darvish and C Victor Caratini.
Davies is part of the huge blockbuster trade that was completed between the Cubs and Padres on Monday. He will immediately fill the void in the Cubs rotation left by trading ace Yu Darvish. The 27-year-old was excellent in 2020, owning a (7-4) record along with a 2.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 63 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings. Davies’ fantasy value shouldn’t change too much with the move to Chicago and expect him be selected within the top-50 starting pitchers in upcoming 2021 fantasy drafts.
Zach Davies took the loss on Wednesday when he surrendered four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and zero walks across five innings in the Padres 6-5 loss to the Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLDS.
Davies did all he could to limit to potent Dodgers offense and pitched better than his stat line would indicate. He made it through the first two inning without allowing a run and didn't walk a batter during his outing. He was tagged for three runs in the third inning and Cody Bellinger put on the finishing touches with a solo blast in the fourth. Davies has struggled in the postseason compared to his stellar regular season but that's to be expected with the increased level of competition. The Padres will go with Adrian Morejon as their opener on Thursday in hopes of staving off elimination.
Zach Davies is scheduled to start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers.
Davies lasted just two innings in his previous start against the Cardinals in the Wild Card round. It was his first career playoff start. Davies will look to rebound from his disastrous outing and try help the Padres even the series between the Dodgers 1-1. The right-hander owned a 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 69 1/3 innings during the regular season.
Zach Davies took a no-decision on Thursday as he surrendered four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk across two innings in the Padres eventual 11-9 win over the Cardinals.
Davies struggled over his two innings of work as a lot of Cardinals had experience facing him dating back to his Milwaukee days. He was picked up by the Padres offense, though, as Slam Diego was in full force, so he escaped with a no-decision. The Padres live to play another day and will face Jack Flaherty in a winner-take-all Game 3 on Friday.
