The Braves had thought that Almonte would make a push to make the final roster and perhaps even push for the LF position but he faltered this spring, sporting a .245/.243/.265 slash line in 49 at-bats.
Fantasy Impact
Almonte has promise but he needs further development and this move will give him the opportunity to play everyday and increase his skill-set. We may see him back with the club sometime this season but currently he holds no fantasy value.
The Braves are completely retooling, except for Freeman, Simmons, and a couple of others. Almonte could be an important piece of this in the outfield. He is from the Yankee organization and his winter numbers look promising. He is batting .337 with 15 XBHs in 139 ABs, .395 OBP and an .870 OPS in the D.R. winter league.
Fantasy Impact
This is something to keep an eye on pre-draft as fantasy ballers look for that sneaky pick to get them over the hump in their leagues. Gattis is not an outfielder so Almonte might find regular playing time if his numbers hold up.
