Carson Benge to compete for Opening Day roster spot
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday that Carson Benge will have an opportunity to make the team’s Opening Day roster during spring training, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Benge advanced quickly through the Mets’ system in 2025, beginning the year at High-A Brooklyn and finishing at Triple-A Syracuse. Across three affiliates, the 22-year-old hit .282/.389/.467 with 14 home runs, 69 RBI, 85 runs, and 24 stolen bases. He struggled after his promotion to Syracuse, managing a .583 OPS over 103 plate appearances.
Fantasy Impact
Benge’s fast rise through the minors has put him on the radar for a potential big-league debut in 2026. However, his late-season struggles at Triple-A suggest the Mets could keep him in the minors if he doesn’t perform well in camp.
