RP - DET
Expert NoteView More Notes
Although K-Rod is now 35 years old, he still holds the closer job in Detroit, however, because of the age, his k-rate has plummeted where he is now striking out just 40% of the hitters some of the elite closers are, with a significantly worse ERA and WHIP. Don't buy him just because he has a ton of saves the past three years, those opportunities are fickle and no guarantee to carry over from season to season.

Francisco Rodriguez will be late to Spring Training once again
Francisco Rodriguez will not be at Spring Training in Lakeland, FL on time, as he is having visa issues. This is the second consecutive season that he has had these issues, but should not mean much for his role as the Tigers' closer. He had 44 saves and a 3.24 ERA in 61 games.
Rodriguez appeared to be done as a closer going into 2014, but has 126 saves and a 2.85 ERA over the last three seasons. After posting 3.8 walks per nine from 2002-2013, Rodriguez has seen his walks per nine drop to 2.5 over the last three seasons and his WHIP drop to 0.99. While Rodriguez is not seen as a top RP, especially since his K/9 dropped under 9 for the first time of his career in 2016, he is a safe bet for 35 or more saves.
